Hōkūleʻa, 'Star of Gladness' — the Hawaiian name for Arcturus, which passes through the zenith over Hawaiʻi and so guided voyagers home; the great voyaging canoe is named for it. The same star is the Greek Bear-guard and the Chinese Great Horn.
