A lion's jackal lures a donkey to the lion with promises of lush pasture and a she-donkey. The lion, too eager, springs early and only stuns it, and the donkey flees; but, persuaded a second time by the same sweet words, the foolish donkey returns and is killed. The jackal, asked where the heart and ears went, says a beast that walked twice into a lion's den can have had neither.
