Panchatantra Lion Camel

tale:panchatantra_lion_camel

A camel strays into a lion's domain and is taken under the lion's protection, to the envy of the jackal, crow, and leopard of the court. When famine comes, the courtiers scheme: each offers the weakened lion his own body, knowing the lion will refuse — until the trusting camel offers his, and is at once taken at his word and devoured. Moral: among flatterers at court, the trusting outsider is the first meal. — Panchatantra (attrib. Vishnu Sharma)
