Kancil Ungrateful Crocodile

tale:kancil_ungrateful_crocodile

A man frees a crocodile stranded far from water, and the ungrateful beast at once seizes him and means to eat him. They put the case to Kancil, who professes not to understand and asks the crocodile to show exactly how it was trapped. The crocodile climbs back into the snare to demonstrate — and Kancil tells the man to leave it there and go home. Moral: let the ingrate re-enact its own trap, and justice does itself. — Sang Kancil (Malay folklore)
