Two peddlers cross a river town. The greedy one, offered an old blackened bowl by a poor girl, cheats her to seize it for nothing, knowing it is solid gold; but he delays to drive a harder bargain. The honest peddler, the Bodhisattva, comes after, deals fairly, and wins the golden bowl. Moral: greed that overreaches loses to honest dealing. — Jataka tale
