Wright Brothers' first sustained powered heavier-than-air flight, Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, December 17 1903. Four flights that day; first: 12 seconds, 36 metres (Orville). Fourth: 59 seconds, 260 metres (Wilbur). The Wrights were self-taught bicycle manufacturers.
