An eclipse is only a shadow: the Moon between Sun and Earth, or the Earth's shadow on the Moon, in a brief alignment. The very Babylonians whose myths told of a sky-beast devouring the Sun also tracked the eighteen-year saros and PREDICTED these alignments — myth and reckoning held in the same hands.
