Tantalum (Ta): refractory metal; primary use in miniature electrolytic capacitors for smartphones, laptops, and medical devices; also in surgical implants and chemical processing equipment (high acid resistance). DRC and Rwanda are primary producers; historically linked to conflict minerals.
