Gilgamesh Enkidu Death

myth:gilgamesh_enkidu_death

For the slaying of Humbaba and the Bull, the gods decree that one of the friends must die, and the lot falls on Enkidu, who sickens and wastes away. Gilgamesh keeps a long vigil over the body, and will not let it be buried until decay forces him — and so first looks full into the face of death. — Epic of Gilgamesh
